Why the HS&E Test Matters

The CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test is a compulsory requirement for many construction workers in the UK. All versions of the HS&E Test assess your knowledge across multiple domains, such as:

✔ Legal and management responsibilities

✔ Occupational health, wellbeing and welfare

How to Prepare Effectively

Here are some recommended steps to help you prepare and pass the test with confidence:

✔ Use official revision materials published by CITB.

✔ Take mock tests under timed conditions to get used to the format.

✔ Work through sample questions thoroughly to understand correct answers.

✔ Attend a short training or revision course to reinforce knowledge.

✔ Use multiple formats such as books, apps, and online tools to revise.

✔ Start revising early and be consistent rather than cramming last minute.

After the Test

If you pass, you will be eligible to apply for or renew your relevant CSCS card. Your result is usually valid for two years. If you fail, review weaker areas, practise more, and book a retake after the waiting period.
